IPMS Odessos is glad to award the 1/48 scale kit of F-4J Phantom II from Zoukei-Mura with a very special plate, called “Model of the Year 2016”. This delicate piece of glass symbolizes the perfection and refined delicacy of every piece in the SWS F-4J kit. It may sound like a bold statement, but it certainly mirrors our viewpoint about the kit and also about the numerous innovative approaches in this kit.
After having the possibility to explore in-depth the kit and after it was built by one of our IPMS Odessos`s members exclusively for the Concept Note of the kit, we found out that this kit meets and even exceeds our criteria for excellence. This alone was enough to place the SWS F-4J kit high on the list with the best 1/48 kits that we have reviewed or assembled throughout the last year. 2016 was a very intriguing year full of great 1/48 kit releases, and the SWS F-4J kit offers an unmatched combination regarding the quality/price factor, or simply put – what the modeler receives out of the box (OOB).
After assessing the components of other 1/48 kits by these and other factors, it was clear to us that only the F-14A kit from Tamiya and the F-4J Rockin Rhino kit from Eduard were the only kits subjected to comparison. The F-14A is without a doubt more complex, more difficult to build and is greater in quantity, than the SWS F-4J kit, but this is primarily due to the difference in the complexity and structure of the two real planes as well. The F-4J Rockin Rhino is actually a repacked kit with numerous complimentary photo etched and resin details, but the plastic details can only get closer to the perfection and impeccability of the plastic details in the SWS F-4J kit. This is only an overview of the major factors that pointed out the presence of finest qualities in the SWS F-4J kit.
A big “Congratulations” Zoukei-Mura for making the greatest F-4J Phantom II kit in 1/48 scale and letting us keep striving to achieve always the best in our models.
